More than thirty talented Emirati school students participated in the four-day event from 19th to 22nd December 2016. The event was held at Khalifa University’s Abu Dhabi new campus. The Bootcamp program was developed and delivered in partnership with British Telecommunications, and University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland. BT and UCD have created an excellent programme to provide the critical link in the innovation process and they have successfully designed and delivered the successful BT Young Scientist Business Bootcamp since 2010.

The bootcamp aims to bridge the gap between the worlds of education and business and mentor the next generation of young UAE innovators and entrepreneurs. Bridging this gap is critical if UAE is to be a competitive player in the innovative knowledge-based economy. The objective is to create valuable opportunities for young talents in the UAE to enhance their skills and promote creativity and innovation. The event will also help to cultivate and nurture the talent of local young potential innovators and entrepreneurs which is aligned well with the UAE government’s newly launched National Innovation Strategy.

The opening ceremony of the bootcamp was attended by Dr Amna Al Dahak Al Shamsi, Assistant Undersecretary for Care and Activities Sector at the UAE’s Ministry of Education, Dr. Tod Laursen, Khalifa University’s President, Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi, Khalifa University’s Executive Vice President. The event has received extensive media coverage, including Abu Dhabi TV and a number of UAE national newspapers both in Arabic and English.
